Although the summer in Berlin doesn?t seem as crammed with big events as last year ? the absence of the World Cup matches and the moval of the Love Parade from Berlin to Essen are to blame ? there?s still enough to keep any traveller amused.
The Sandsation sand sculpting competition is currently on beside Hauptbahnhof station, there?s a special Elvis exhibition and show, a challenging art installation at the Deutsche Guggenheim and last but not least the 21st fantastic Long night of the museums which is celebrating its 10th birthday this year.
Or you could just find a quiet café terrace, order a beer and ignore it all.
Berlin is simply bursting with good ideas about how to while away time at a museum, a show or an artificial beach bar. Its up to you to discover it all with www.germany-cities.com.
If you plan to partake in some local nightlife, don't miss out on Berlin's famous revue or cabaret shows ? many are suitable for children and for those who don't understand German. The recently opened Admiralspalast is one of many theatres putting on entertaining variety shows every night.
The completion of the Hauptbahnhof station (see here for more) after 8 years of construction marks an important step; for the first time ever the city has one central transport hub, which no doubt will have a huge effect. This, together with the newly renovated Olympic Stadium, is of importance, as Berlin gets tantalisingly close to becoming a 'normal city' ? though in our hearts we always keep hoping that it will never reach that status and stay as quirky, annoying, grand, beautiful, trendy, ugly and amazing as it is now.
